Introduction

Business incubators are an important part of the global support infrastructure for SMEs. The first business incubation activities were conducted in the USA and Western Europe. In Slovakia, this support system for small and medium enterprises is still not sufficiently developed, because of functioning network of incubators, which can offer for start-up businesses appropriate facilities, comprehensive services and necessary start-up capital. Compared to Europe are business incubators at the stage of establishment. In the present, Slovakia built 17 business and technology incubators in different regions, that support start-ups. Eleven business incubators operating in the Slovak Republic decided to establish a Slovak association of business and technology incubators – SAPTI in beginning of 2008. In Hungary, the first idea of founding a business incubator came in 1991. Operation of the first incubator was launched in 1991 in Nyíregyháza, which also currently acts as an incubator. In these days, into our main activities belongs the realization of the project within the Programme of Cross-border Cooperation between Hungary and Slovakia for the period of years 2007-2013
